Synopsis

Spanning more than four decades of work, The Lost Haida Manga traces the origins and evolution of the groundbreaking visual storytelling form created by Haida artist Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas. Blending Haida visual traditions with the language of comics and graphic novels, these fifteen black-and-white works move between ancestral stories, contemporary politics, environmental resistance, and Indigenous sovereignty.

Bringing together previously published and newly collected works, this landmark volume reveals the development of an entirely new artistic language. Both an archive and a work of art in its own right, The Lost Haida Manga offers a powerful exploration of storytelling, place, and the enduring strength of Indigenous knowledge and visual culture.
