Synopsis

Fed up with the noise and confinement of city life, twelve-year-old Sam Gribley leaves his crowded New York apartment and heads for the Catskill Mountains with little more than a penknife, a ball of cord, and a determination to live off the land. Hollowing out an ancient hemlock tree for shelter, he learns to make fire, forage for food, train a peregrine falcon, and survive through ingenuity, patience, and a growing respect for the natural world.

Far more than an adventure story, My Side of the Mountain is a timeless celebration of self-reliance, curiosity, and humanity's connection to the wilderness. Jean Craighead George's beloved Newbery Honor classic has inspired generations of readers with its vivid descriptions of the outdoors and its enduring belief that courage and imagination can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
