Garden Physic
Synopsis
A strange and beautiful celebration of the garden, Garden Physic gathers poems inspired by plants, flowers, weeds, herbs, and the creatures that inhabit them. Sylvia Legris maps the garden as both body and landscape, combining botanical and anatomical language in poems of compressed, exuberant invention.
Drawing on everything from the correspondence of garden designers Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson to the paintings of Agnes Martin and the medicinal writings of the ancient Greek pharmacologist Pedanius Dioscorides, Legris creates a richly layered poetic world. From muskeg and backyard to rainworm, horsetail, and fern, Garden Physic finds wonder, mystery, and healing in the natural world.
