Death in Midsummer: And Other Stories
Synopsis
Selected by Yukio Mishima himself, Acts of Worship brings together nine of the celebrated Japanese writer's finest short stories. Spanning a remarkable range of voices and subjects, these stories capture moments of revelation, desire, obsession, and spiritual conflict, often revealing the tensions between modern life and the enduring pull of tradition.
Elegant, psychologically acute, and deeply unsettling, Mishima's fiction explores beauty, identity, mortality, and the hidden forces that shape human behaviour. Together, these stories offer an ideal introduction to one of Japan's most influential twentieth-century writers.
