Synopsis

On the wild Yorkshire moors, an orphan named Heathcliff is taken into the Earnshaw household, where he forms an all-consuming bond with Catherine Earnshaw. Their love is fierce, possessive, and ultimately undone by class, pride, and circumstance. When Catherine chooses the security of marriage to Edgar Linton over a life with Heathcliff, the betrayal sets in motion a decades-long cycle of revenge that engulfs two families and leaves lasting scars across generations.

Dark, passionate, and psychologically complex, Wuthering Heights remains one of the most singular novels in English literature. Emily Brontë's only novel defies the conventions of Victorian fiction, replacing sentimentality with obsession, cruelty, longing, and moral ambiguity. Set against the haunting landscape of the Yorkshire moors, it is a Gothic masterpiece that continues to captivate readers with its emotional intensity and unforgettable characters.

About the Author

Emily Brontë (1818–1848) was an English novelist and poet, and one of the celebrated Brontë sisters. Although she published only a single novel during her lifetime, Wuthering Heights has become one of the defining works of English literature. Initially controversial for its emotional ferocity and unconventional characters, the novel is now widely regarded as a landmark of Gothic fiction and psychological realism. This Penguin Classics edition includes an introduction and notes by Pauline Nestor and a preface by Lucasta Miller.
