Synopsis

A nameless narrator commits a murder, hides the stolen money, and sets off to recover it, only to wander into a world where the ordinary laws of time, space, and logic no longer apply. Guided by the mysterious spirit of his accomplice, he encounters three eccentric policemen obsessed with bicycles, atomic theory, and impossible philosophical puzzles. As each bizarre encounter pulls him deeper into an increasingly surreal landscape, the line between life and death, guilt and innocence, begins to dissolve.

About the Author

Flann O'Brien was the pen name of Irish novelist, playwright, and satirist Brian O'Nolan (1911–1966). Widely regarded as one of Ireland's greatest literary innovators alongside James Joyce and Samuel Beckett, O'Brien is celebrated for his playful experimentation, linguistic brilliance, and surreal humour. His best-known works include At Swim-Two-Birds, The Third Policeman, and The Dalkey Archive. This edition includes an introduction by the distinguished Irish literary critic Denis Donoghue.
