The Moomins and the Great Flood
Synopsis
Moominmamma and Moomintroll are searching for a safe place to spend the winter when they discover that Moominpappa is missing. Their journey takes them through a dark forest and across a tremendous flood, where they encounter strange creatures and unexpected dangers along the way. Guided by Moominmamma’s patience and kindness, Moomintroll finds the courage to keep going.
Tove Jansson’s first Moomin story is a deceptively simple tale about finding home, facing fear, and enduring uncertainty. Written during the Winter War between Finland and the Soviet Union, the story’s flood and separation carry echoes of displacement and loss, while its curious creatures, playful language, and gentle humour create the strange, imaginative world that would become the foundation of the Moomin books.
