Queer Exhibition Histories
Queer Exhibition Histories
Synopsis
Queer Exhibition Histories gathers case studies from the history of queer art exhibitions and the ways these projects have been documented and archived. Many of the exhibitions featured were short-lived, held in private or domestic spaces, or known only to particular communities, leaving their histories dependent on personal archives, memories, and ephemera.
Bringing together artists, curators, writers, and activists, the anthology examines the intersection of queerness and contemporary art and considers how LGBTQ+ artists have expanded their presence in museums and society. The case studies range from underground and community-based exhibitions to major institutional projects, exploring queer art, activism, education, archives, museums, and community building.
