Synopsis

Our Human Shores explores life in the Anthropocene, confronting the ecological crises of our time alongside the social barriers and inequalities that stand in the way of creating a more just and livable world.

Through lyricism, experimentation, and ecopoetics, Josh Fomon examines how language shapes meaning, faith in people and institutions, and our understanding of mortality. Borrowing its title from John Keats' "Bright Star," Our Human Shores reimagines the thresholds between humanity and nature, asking readers to reconsider climate, creation, and humankind's place in a world facing environmental collapse.

Both urgent and contemplative, Our Human Shores is a speculative collection that imagines how poetry might help guide humanity through extinction.

About the Author

Josh Fomon is an American poet and educator. He is the author of Though We Bled Meticulously and Our Human Shores. His work explores ecology, language, mortality, and the intersections of poetry and environmental thought. Fomon's poems have appeared in numerous literary journals, including The Georgia Review, Poetry Northwest, DIAGRAM, jubilat, and Caketrain.
