Glorious Exploits: A Novel
Synopsis
On the island of Sicily during the Peloponnesian War, surviving Athenian prisoners have been herded into a rock quarry and left to die. Two unemployed potters, Lampo and Gelon, begin feeding the prisoners in exchange for reciting lines from Euripides. Before long, they hatch an ambitious plan: to stage a full production of Medea using the imprisoned Athenians as actors.
What begins as a lark soon becomes something far more consequential, as friendship, art, war, and survival collide. Told in a contemporary Irish voice that is both riotously funny and deeply moving, Glorious Exploits is an unforgettable celebration of art in a time of war and the things that bind people across history and battle lines.
