Enjoy the Ride! (Some People Press)
Synopsis
Written from inside prison, Enjoy the Ride! is William Shawn Tillman's unflinching account of a life marked by neglect, addiction, homelessness, and constant movement. From train hopping and hitchhiking to temporary jobs, stolen cars, and years of instability, Tillman recounts the experiences that led to his incarceration with remarkable honesty and clarity. Alongside hardship, he reflects on moments of friendship, faith, beauty, and the difficult work of accepting responsibility for his past.
Direct, compassionate, and free of self-pity, Enjoy the Ride! is a powerful memoir of survival and self-examination. Published as part of the Same Time series, it also stands as a testament to the transformative possibilities of writing and the importance of creating space for voices too often excluded from literature.
