A Tree: A Reader on Arboreal Kinship
Synopsis
A Tree: A Reader on Arboreal Kinship brings together artistic practices and research that explore the relationships between people and trees. The contributors consider vegetal agency, plant knowledge, and the ways trees shape landscapes, climates, ecologies, and human imagination.
Moving through art, music, storytelling, poetry, and images, the book invites readers to think differently about “tree time”—the vast timescales on which trees live and change. Its intimate, speculative, and queer approaches to arboreal kinship encourage new ways of relating to the more-than-human world while questioning anthropocentrism, capitalism, individualism, heteronormativity, and coloniality.
